“Fürstenberg Contemporary” was founded in 2011 by Hereditary Prince and Princess Christian and Jeannette zu Fürstenberg and serves to promote and convey contemporary art. The activities of the institution are divided into awarding grants to young artists, building up an art collection and organizing exhibitions. The “Fürstenberg Contemporary” collection can be seen in the cabinets and in the skylight hall of the Princely Fürstenberg Collections. In order to correspond as closely as possible to the ideas of the artists on display, the rooms were partly set up in close dialogue with them, so that the cabinets have the installative character of so-called “artists’ rooms”.
This applies e.g. to the room of Dirk Bell. The dream and fantasy worlds that the viewer encounters here have earned the Munich-born artist the reputation of a contemporary surrealist and romantic. The b/w photographs by the Berlin artist Carina Brandes are also surreal itself was undertaken. A large room designed by Zin Taylor evokes the landscape with a fine network of drawings and small clay objects Heiligenberg and especially the Heiligenberg “Friendship Cave”.
