The Fürstenberg Collections on Karlsplatz in Donaueschingen present three weighty parts of the centuries-old collections of the Fürstenberg princes on around 2500 square metres:

  1. On the ground floor, minerals and fossils, especially from the former Fürstenberg territories, are on display.
  2. On the first floor, visitors can explore the museum’s comprehensive natural history collection. Numerous natural history specimens offer a rich insight into all animal species on earth. Most of the specimens are around 150 years old!
  3. The second floor is dedicated to the collection of contemporary art (“Fürstenberg Contemporary”) created by the hereditary princess and prince Jeannette and Christian zu Fürstenberg.

The Fürstenberg Collections were established by Prince Karl Egon III in 1868 in the former manorial tithe barn. The museum furnishings on the two lower floors date back to the time of construction and are listed as historical monuments.
